Dental Services
Our Services
We are able to provide most of the General Dentistry services you would expect from a traditional office. The following is a list of services we routinely provide to our patients
Diagnostic & Preventive
X-Rays, Photos, Digital Scans
X-rays, also known as radiographs, allow your dentist to see between and inside your teeth. Dental X-rays are important because they give your dentist the whole picture. They help dentists see the condition of your teeth and also the roots, jaw placement, and facial bone composition. They will help your dentist find and treat dental problems before they become too serious or advanced.
Exams (Initial, Recurring & Emergencies)
Our friendly dentists can provide the help you need to make sure your oral health is top-notch. We encourage you to have a routine dental exam at least once every six months. Of course, if you have certain oral health issues or problems, your dentist may recommend that you come more often than that. A dental exam may include things like:
- Visual inspection of your mouth
- X-rays, if needed
- Individual checking of the pockets of each tooth
- Bite evaluation to ensure that the upper and lower teeth are coming together properly
- Screening for TMJ
- Examining the teeth for signs of excessive wear and tear
- Overview and updates on your dental and medical history
- Oral cancer screening, if necessary
- Dental cleaning
Your dentist or hygienist may also give you a demonstration and instructions about how to better care for your teeth and gums at home. At-home oral hygiene is just as important as having regular dental exams. Your dentist or oral hygienist may show you how to brush and floss properly, especially if it looks like you’ve developed some plaque or tartar since your last visit. They may also recommend specific brands or toothpaste types to address your specific issues, such as sensitive teeth issues. This is a great time to get clarification about any at-home oral hygiene questions you may have.
Cleanings
A regular scheduled dental cleaning helps to maintain your optimal oral hygiene. By having routine scheduled cleanings, we can help ensure that your teeth are in the best shape possible while removing any plaque or tartar buildup that has developed since your last visit. Our senior patients often receive cleanings on a more frequent schedule because they often encounter difficulties maintaining good oral hygiene due to physical or cognitive limitations as well as the side effects of medications make them more susceptible to decay.
Oral Cancer Screenings
Oral cancer screening is an examination performed by the dentist to look for signs of cancer or precancerous conditions in the patient’s mouth. The goal of oral cancer screening is to identify mouth cancer early when there is a greater chance for a cure. Most dentists perform an examination of the patient’s mouth during a routine dental visit to screen for oral cancer. Some dentists may use additional tests to aid in identifying areas of abnormal cells in your mouth.
Fluoride Varnish
In most cases, the dentist will recommend fluoride treatment as a preventive measure in conjunction with cleaning visits. While maintaining proper oral hygiene, eating a healthy diet, and regular professional cleanings aid in cavity prevention, sometimes it isn’t enough. Professionally applied fluoride varnish provides a high concentration of fluoride directly to the teeth and can benefit those who are prone to cavities or have weak enamel.
Teledentistry
Teledentistry uses audio and visual technology to connect you with dental services remotely. It allows you to receive professional insight, diagnoses, and patient education typically faster than the Dental Team can be there for a live visit. Teledentistry can be crucial for individuals with mobility issues, medically compromised, and or those with busy schedules.
General Dentistry
Fillings (Treating Cavities)
Solutions for decayed, chipped and or cracked teeth tend to be painless for you and simple for our dentist to perform. In most cases, we can fix the problem with fillings and dental sealants. Nonetheless, we would perform a comprehensive assessment in the beginning to check the level of damage to the tooth. If the problem has affected the integrity of the tooth too much, the fillings and sealants might not be enough to restore the strength of the tooth. In these cases, we still have solutions available and could turn to permanent crowns or removable dentures to help restore the function of your oral health.
Gum Treatment
In most cases, the dentist will recommend fluoride treatment as a preventive measure in conjunction with cleaning visits. While maintaining proper oral hygiene, eating a healthy diet, and regular a professional cleanings aid in cavity prevention, sometimes it isn’t enough. In these cases, patients can request a professional fluoride varnish at their next dentist appointment. Professionally applied fluoride varnish provides a high concentration of fluoride directly to the teeth and can benefit those who are prone to cavities or weak enamel.
Root Canals
A root canal is a treatment dentists use to address an infected tooth. This happens when decay and bacteria spread for too long without treatment. At a certain point, this decay makes it to the pulp inside the tooth. This pulp includes nerves, so infection there generally causes a lot of pain. Since this is happening on the inside of the tooth, you won’t necessarily see the damage. Instead, you could feel it through pain and notice other signs that include bleeding, swelling, bad breath, trouble eating, loss of appetite etc.
Extractions
While no one wants to lose a tooth, situations sometimes present themselves when it’s necessary to remove a tooth. If this is the case, tooth extraction is a solution that helps solve a dental problem causing pain or discomfort. When left alone, these problems worsen and require more extensive treatment down the line. We can provide extraction treatment as well as follow- up treatment to restore proper function, appearance and health to the patient’s mouth. Often times, if a patient leaves a severely decayed/infected/broken tooth alone, the infection could spread to affect other teeth as well as gums. The spread would create the need for additional and more extensive treatment.
Biopsies
A dental biopsy is a procedure that involves removing a small portion of the patient’s soft tissue in a suspicious area for further examination by an outside pathological laboratory. Dental biopsies usually focus only on the soft tissues of the oral cavity that are suspicious in shape, color or texture that gives the provider concern and warrants testing. Oral Cancer is a horribly damaging disease if left untreated and has a much higher survival rate if detected early.
Bone Grafts
A dental bone graft is necessary when bone loss has occurred in the jaw. This procedure is commonly performed prior to dental implant placement or after a tooth extraction when bone loss is or can negatively affect neighboring teeth. Once the bone graft has been placed, it holds space for the patient’s own body to do the repair work. In other words, a dental bone graft is like a scaffold on which the natural bone tissue can grow and regenerate. A person with bone loss in their jaw usually needs a dental bone graft. This procedure may be recommended if a patient:
- Is having a tooth extracted.
- Plans to replace a missing tooth with a dental implant.
- Need to rebuild the jaw before getting dentures.
- Needs to rebuild the jaw before getting dentures.
- Has areas of bone loss due to gum disease.
Crowns
Dental crowns are permanent prosthetics that cover a damaged tooth. A dentist might use them in place of a large filling, when a tooth is weak or fractured, or in some other cases. The dentist will decide whether a crown is the best solution to address the patient’s dental issue. At Mobile Dental Associates, we provide comprehensive dental exams to figure out your needs and the best type of treatment. If a dental crown is the answer, we are able to provide this service for most patients.
Bridges
When a patient’s teeth are missing, it greatly affects the smile. At the same time, the missing tooth reduces the mouth’s function and can increase the risk of dental problems from exposure to food particles and weakening of the bone. Dental bridges improve the appearance and function of the patient’s teeth by helping us replace the missing tooth. Bridges are permanently cemented in so there is nothing to remove or clean separately.
Silver Diamide Fluoride Treatment
Silver Diamide Fluoride, also referred to as “SDF”, is a topical medication used to treat and prevent dental caries and relieve dentinal hypersensitivity. SDF is a colorless liquid that is applied to teeth with a small brush. It contains silver, which kills germs that can cause tooth decay, as well as fluoride to prevent, slow down, or stop decay. SDF can be put on teeth as soon as tooth decay is detected. It is ideal for pediatric teeth as well as on Geriatric patients where permanent restorations are not possible or hindered by the patient’s medical conditions or finances.
Full Dentures
Dentures can provide a positive solution to improving your oral health when you have missing teeth and a loss of proper oral function and health. We can help figure out your denture needs, provide the dentures, and educate you on denture care. We are with you during every part of the process. We often suggest full dentures to our patients when they have lost or will lose a full row or arch
Partial Dentures
A partial denture is a removable, yet natural-looking dental appliance that helps restore the form and function of your jaw by replacing one or several missing teeth. Partial dentures are made from a combination of metal and acrylic – which gives them the strength to handle your needs for chewing and speaking, while also looking natural. Some partial dentures are entirely made from acrylic – these dentures tend to be less durable and structurally sound but may be a solution for you depending on your
